Gut Problems and Energy

So many people arrive at my door saying they have no energy.  They tell me they need lots of chocolate to keep their energy levels up.  They say that it doesn’t matter how much sleep they get, they’re always tired.

And they are very upset that they have put on weight and can’t lose it. They get bloated after eating – cutting out wheat doesn’t make a difference.

They usually talk to me about the pain they have – joint pain, low back pain, headaches and migraines. Massage is nice but it doesn’t make a long lasting change for them. Osteopathy or chiropractic helps but similarly doesn’t make a long lasting change; they have to go every week for a treatment.

And on top of it all, they seem to catch every cough and cold that goes round the office or that their kids bring back from school.

It’s a bit like being a detective because we look to identify the cause of a problem and not just treat symptoms. Chasing symptoms is a waste of time, a waste of money and misses the opportunity to make a real difference.

One of the things we can do is measure your cortisol levels – it’s easy to do (saliva) and it gives us a reference point that we can refer back to.

Sometimes it’s very useful to do a lab test for the state of your gut health:
